FL: 30+ Years in the business, for the few people who may not know you, please tell us your journey from beginning until now!
Iwer: When I started singing back in 1987 the music of that era was kaiso it was a bit challenging for me but I pushed thru and soca is known, accepted, and loved but all cultures today.
FL: Last Carnival season was the “Soca Clash” of the century it literally mad it one of the most memorable carnivals season to date, fast forward a year later. The differences are squashed you hit the studio and came out with a monster track. How important is mending relationship and collaborating with other artist In the industry?
Iwer: It was very important for me to mend relationships. Collabs was the way to go this carnival and I totally enjoyed working with everyone.
FL: Timing is everything, Conch shell drops and the place shells down. Weeks later out of nowhere the stage was nah good again! It took carnival by storm, to the point masqueraders were chanting IWER and would only cross the stage to the road March tune. Tell us how you were able to land two road March contender tunes in the same season with two different artist.
Iwer: All I can say about that is when it’s your time it’s your time and when I got the call I jumped at it.
FL: Speaking of timing! stage gone bad was written a year ago. Holding on to a monster tune for that long, When do you think is the sweet spot to actually drop a road March song for the season?
Iwer: Timing Is everything when dropping tunes for the road, ideally i think new years day is a good day cause you want it to peak at the right time in the season.
FL: When it comes to fetes, how important is the energy of the crowd and the flag crews when performing!
Iwer: The energy of the crowd is the driving force to give the artist the extra vibe to perform and work their song. It’s a great feeling to see people enjoying themselves when your music play.
FL: After Years of fight down and robbed of titles how does it feel to be Soca Monarch & Road March King?
Iwer: It is a very sweet feeling.
