REBEL MAS

FLWe see that you have your hands in a few different projects, hosting a Caribbean TV Series; Manager & more. Tell us how the Rebel Mas Brand was formed and what projects you are currently working on?

RMYes, that’s correct I am a woman that wears many hats! Rebel Mas was launched in 2016, after a dear friend encouraged me to go for my carnival goals. As a host for Caribbean Life TV, it has afforded me opportunities To interview the best in the  Soca music world and the ability to reach the masses through culture and journalism.

FLSo you’re based out of ATL, How big is the carnival scene in ATL?

RMATL is my base for now. The Atlanta carnival scene is growing by the day.

FL: We understand it’s two carnivals the same day during Memorial Day weekend. If anyone is coming from out of town, how would you suggest they get the ultimate carnival experience in ATL?

RMGreat Question! If you’re coming to Atlanta for carnival I would say try to attend both events. For masqueraders I would suggest the Atlanta DeKalb Carnival (located at Stonecrest Mall, Lithonia, Ga). With over ten mas bands you’re sure to feel the carnival vibes. If you’re looking for a great stage show and a parade going downtown in the old fourth ward area is the place for you.

FL: You’ve had access to some of the biggest names in soca, can you tell us one of the best interviews you’ve done and why was it so memorable?

RM: This is a tough one… I would say my most memorable interviews were with The QOB, Destra Garcia, Ephraan Alves, Voice, and Nessa Preppy. Each of these artists took the time to sit with me and open up about their lives and how soca music influences them. These interviews were so memorable because we were having conversations and doing our due diligence to get soca music the exposure it deserves.

FL: How many carnivals are you planning to attend in 2020? Which one are you looking forward to the most & why?

RM:  I am planning on attending 4-5 carnivals in 2020 possibly more! If I had to choose I’d say I am looking forward to Grenada the most. I have always wanted to play ah wicked jab and in 2020 I will! I’ve been to Grenada in the past but never for Spice Mas. The history of carnival on the island has always fascinated me, it makes perfect sense to go and experience it first hand.

FL: A booking & model manager, tell us who do you represent & how this experience has been so far?

RM: I am currently responsible for the booking and promotions for Julius The Artiste and manage emerging Model DallFace Simone. The experience has been rewarding, extremely busy, and challenging at the same time. I am learning daily what it means to prioritize someone else’s daily grind and goals along with my own. Its quite the responsibility but I am honored that two creative souls have entrusted me to assist on their journeys.

FL: 2020 Carnival season is in full swing, in no particular order top five songs of the season so far?

RM: What’s your name – Julius The Artiste

FL: With your Carnival Influence, how do you plan to help push the culture forward?

RM: With the influence I’ve been blessed with over the past three years I plan on taking carnival conversations global! I plan on RebelMas being the outlet and the catalyst for soca music, mas, and telling the stories many haven’t heard or have been written.

FL: What’s next for Rebel Mas in the future?

RM: The future is looking bright for RebelMas! More traveling, more writing, and of course more interviews. I do have a few things brewing that I can’t go into the details about at the moment (forgive me)… Just know I am working extremely hard to create a cultural platform that the community can relate to and grow with. 2020 has so much in store I can’t wait. Expect spectacular things coming from Julius The Artiste, DallFace Simone, and my Caribbean Life TV famalay.
